This painting by Pierre Montheillet does something to my soooul. Another piece that is versatile in its ability to be hung in multiple orientations: horizontal or vertical. This, to me, sings lyrical abstract expressionism as it feels like a beautiful song that’s been painted. The movement! The color palette! The expressive brush strokes!

Circa late 1940s, oil on canvas mounted on board and presented in an absolutely stunning vintage gold frame with a linen liner. I really have a hard time letting this combo go. But such is this life that I live.

** Pierre Montheillet was a Lyonnaise painter b. 1923-2011. He was the son and grandson of art dealers. Having been raised in the world of art, he became a leading artist of the Lyrical Abstract Expressionist Movement. He defined himself as a landscape painter though not confined by reality and the resemblance of what we typically see as landscape paintings. “Through a clever play of rhythms and colors, his works express the emotions felt in the face of nature, of which he translates forces and structures. He transcribes on the canvas the sensations that the outside world gives him, thus leaving greater freedom of reading to the spectator
